Just the basics
In my on-line shops I'm gradually increasing the number of pendants I make. Therefore, I'm also stocking up on some basic chains that are great for pendants. I'm rather picky about pendant chains. They need to be comfortable, strong and classic to go with various styles of pendants.
My PERFECT black twisted necklace cord is 18 inches and looks like twisted silk cord, but it really tough black rubber. The end caps are solid sterling silver instead of the usual plated. It looks great with many styles of pendants.
I've had this smooth sterling silver snake chain in 20 inches in my shop for a long time. It's simple and sturdy and has a small end cap for pendants to slide over. I'm now carrying a slightly thinner version in 18 inches as well.
I've been looking for a thin, bright copper chain for my copper pendants. I just couldn't find one. Most copper chain is bulkier. I finally found a supply of unfinished 2mm bright copper curb chain and bought the last they had. I finished the chain myself with a small lobster claw clasp and it makes a great pendant chain. I have 18 inch lengths in my shops, but can make custom lengths as well.

Knock Knock !
Who's there ?
Bless.
Bless who ?
I didn't sneeze !
In the interest of continued knock knock proficiency, please note that in this knock knock joke the word "who" substitutes for the word "you." Therefore, you can change it up by replacing the word "Bless" with any word that could be followed by "you." For instance "Thank who?" followed by "You're Welcome!" Or by an action followed by "you" such as "Hug who?" followed by "Hug You!" and a real hug.
This is my son Caleb's recent drawing. He got a 3D drawing book from the library and tried out one of the exercises in perspective. However, he had to give it his own twist. The moving van in the picture is on it's way to Area 51 with escaped spider aliens.

Career Day
Last week I had the privilege to participate in Career Day at my son's Elementary school. I gave six 15 minute talks to groups of K-2nd Graders about a career in jewelry design. I emphasized that I use all my educational background right through college and beyond to do my job: math, computers, geography, writing, science, and more.
As always, the kids were a lot of fun and they wanted to touch everything. I brought strands of pearls and gemstone beads for them to pass around. Since set up and take down time was limited I just brought a few items to display and was able to pull up my website on all the computers.
So, what kinds of questions do the little ones ask? The top two questions are: "How do you get the holes in the beads?" and "How do you make the gold?" They really got interested in finding out what their birthstones were and seeing if I had any of their birthstones with me (I did have a few).
The kids really seemed to enjoy the demo and kept coming around all afternoon asking what happened to the Taekwondo people since we only did Taekwondo in the morning. We showed them some sparring, forms, self defense and kicks and answered a lot of questions. Some of the kids got a chance to try out some kicks too!
Every day since then I've had kids running up to me saying "Hey, aren't you that Kung Fu lady?"

My demo time for jewelry design was in the afternoon. In the morning, I actually helped Master Castro of Air Force Taekwondo in North Las Vegas do a talk and demo on a Career in Taekwondo for 3rd - 5th Graders.
